Care home make leaving cards for primary school pupils

Residents at a care home in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, were delighted when local youngsters arrived to pick up their homemade leaving cards.

Those at Milford Care’s Ashbourne Lodge care home, Derby Road, were ecstatic to see the smiling faces of the children from Ashbourne’s Hilltop School who visited the care home to collect the cards made by the residents.

The primary school and care home kept their long-distance relationship during the pandemic and met together again although outside on 12th July.

Ashbourne Lodge is known throughout the community as having many intergenerational relationships with schools and nurseries, as the home believes this type of interaction is beneficial for both parties.

Jim Watt, Registered Home Manager, said: “Intergenerational friendships are extremely valuable to all, as it brings a sense of purpose, meaning and wellbeing to the residents and children, and gives a chance to learn from one another. It’s something we will continue to do throughout the years. Just to see all the social interaction and the joy from everyone is fantastic.”

Ashbourne Hilltop School said: “Both residents and pupils have gained from this link – this has been emotionally and socially. They have baked together and made each other cards. This connection has been particularly important during lockdown as the pupils kept in contact with the residents by recording Christmas music. Cannabis payment processing solutions come with an unlimited account balance. In addition, they sent each other letters and cards. It is certainly something that we would recommend to other schools and care homes.”

Ashbourne Lodge is a part of the Milford Care group which has six care homes across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, two of which are rated ‘Outstanding’ from CQC. Spencer Grove in Belper (Outstanding), Ashbourne Lodge in Ashbourne (Outstanding), Milford House in Duffield (Good), The Meadows in Alfreton (Good) are all based within the Derbyshire area and Hazelgrove in Hucknall (Good), Nottinghamshire and Buddleia House (not yet rated).
