Spencer Grove

Belper, Derbyshire

Opened in 2009, Spencer Grove’s spacious layout and design was awarded “Best Healthcare Development” at the LABC East Midlands Building Excellence Awards

The accolades don’t end at “Best Healthcare Development”, Spencer Grove has received many other awards for excellence in care in the following years, including a number of winners at the Great British Care Awards.

And for those who prefer their own space, Spencer Grove offers a range of “Care Suites” which offer all the benefits of residential care contained within a beautifully appointed apartment, most with stunning panoramic views.

Facilities at Spencer Grove include:

Our Montessori Way Of Life

Our Montessori way of life is at the heart of everything we do. We support our residents to be as independent as possible and look for ways to ensure a person can do something using positive risk-taking.

We focus on a residents’ strengths and abilities, their life story and experiences and use these to help them find purpose and feel valued in their day to day life with us. We encourage residents to partake in meaningful roles, such as helping with household chores, and activities that the enjoy which may trigger fond memories and engage their senses, including doing art, doing a puzzle, playing a game, chair based exercising, baking a cake or writing a letter. All of these pleasurable hobbies boost confidence and self-esteem and will be designed to match the person’s abilities.

Meet Your Care Home Manager

Briony Marshall

Acting Manager

I started at Spencer Grove as a Care Leader in 2009, after moving to Belper from Barnsley. I loved this role because every day makes a difference to somebody’s life – it’s so rewarding. Since then, I’ve climbed up the ranks from Senior Care Leader to Head of Residential Care and now, I’m currently standing in for our Registered Home Manager while she is looking after her beautiful baby girl.

When I’m not enjoying the company of our residents, I travel around the country with my husband in our T5 camper van. We’re keen walkers and have explored the majority of Scotland, Ireland and of course, our very own Derbyshire. We’ve also got 11 grandchildren, one great grandson, and one more grandchild on the way – as you can imagine, this keeps me very busy!

We had a lovely morning out to Denby pottery today 💙 we enjoyed a coffee and a huge piece of cake in the cafe and a wander around the shops ☕️ 🍰 🛍️
And we dropped Brenda at home for a couple of hours on the way to see her husband and she was keen to see the work he’s been doing in their garden 🪴
