Our Montessori Way Of Life
Our Montessori way of life is at the heart of everything we do. We support our residents to be as independent as possible and look for ways to ensure a person can do something using positive risk-taking.
We focus on a residentsβ strengths and abilities, their life story and experiences and use these to help them find purpose and feel valued in their day to day life with us. We encourage residents to partake in meaningful roles, such as helping with household chores, and activities that the enjoy which may trigger fond memories and engage their senses, including doing art, doing a puzzle, playing a game, chair based exercising, baking a cake or writing a letter. All of these pleasurable hobbies boost confidence and self-esteem and will be designed to match the personβs abilities.
Meet Your Care Home Manager
Mark Binns
Registered Home Manager
I didnβt have the most traditional start to a career in care! I trained as an accountant in London, and after many years in the practice, I realised I wanted to give back to the community and pursued work in the social care sector. In 2014, I began my new career as a care assistant and immediately discovered a passion for providing care for the elderly. I was delighted to work in a role that genuinely made a difference to the lives of those needing support.
After working within the role for a year, my manager at the time asked me if I would like to become the trainer within that organisation, eventually becoming Deputy and then heading up to Manager. This gave me the opportunity to promote my person-centred values amongst the staff and make a real difference to the people we were caring for.
Once my four children had flown the nest, my wife and I moved to Derbyshire seeking a more relaxing way of life. We adore the area and as a keen runner, there are many tracks and trails from which I try to better my PB! I am lucky enough to have joined the Milford family as the Registered Home Manager. At Milford House, we deliver care following the Montessori way, which takes person-centred care to even higher levels. The empowerment of our residents to live with a purpose at our home is something that I am really excited to be a part of.
