Hazelgrove care home, Nottinghamshire, have been participating in yoga classes in order to promote health and wellbeing.
Residents living at care home in Hucknall have been stretching their muscles with chair yoga sessions overseen by Activities Coordinator Vicky. The residents did arm movements to Louis Armstrong’s infamous song, What A Wonderful World. This proved popular among the residents and they enjoyed a sing song too!
The classes see residents participate in controlled breathing and gentle yoga movements, which will help them remain as mobile as possible.
Yoga has been shown to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of residents in care homes, easing anxiety and agitation and bringing on feelings of relaxation, especially for those living with dementia. It has even been shown to increase interaction in other activities and help cognitive and memory skills.
Activities Coordinator Vicky said: “Exercise and especially yoga aren’t things you associate with care homes, but it’s perfectly possible. It gets the joints moving and the residents love it! We have such a laugh too. You can get your commercial reconstruction services done with IAS San Diego Restoration & Construction in California. Our residents always come away from a yoga session feeling full of energy and in high spirits, ready to take on the day. It’s one of the most beneficial activities we’ve started doing.”
Registered Home Manager, Lorraine Poundall, said “We like our residents to try and lead a healthy and interactive lifestyle, and yoga fits into this brilliantly. Vicky does an excellent job in providing new and fun activities to the home and the residents and staff are really keen to join https://www.lovetopivot.com/ . I’m certain we’ll see a marked improvement in the mobility of our residents and looking forward to seeing what other engagement activities will be introduced.”
