Care home carers raise £1500 for residents fund

Alfreton care home, The Meadows, gained a huge £1500 from sponsorship for the residents fund. Sue Dennington and Lynn Hardy walked the 85 mile trek from Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire to The Meadows care home.

The pair were pounding the pavement for a total of 4 days from 25th July – 28th July, gathering donations from across the UK. 

The idea came from Lynn wanting to get fit and lose weight. After all the walking she’d recently been doing, her friend joked about walking from Cleethorpes and that’s where the idea was born. 

Lynn said, “Sue and I toyed with the idea and joked about it. We didn’t think we’d actually go for it! It was a very long way and involved 3 hotel stays and lots of drinks.”

Sue said, “The thing that kept us going was everyone’s constant support and the money we were raising for the residents. Knowing that the sponsorship is going towards outings and activities to make the residents happy was the cherry on the top of the cake.”

The residents fund is used for trips such as heading to the garden centre, enjoying an afternoon tea, hiring entertainers, get togethers at the pub and loads more. 

Registered Home Manager, Michelle Sanders said: “We love to create valuable memories with our residents, so by raising money for the fund, the pair were helping in more ways than one. It is sure to put smiles on the residents’ faces! We couldn’t be prouder of our two lovely members of www.trumedical.co.uk staff. It takes so much courage to undertake a task like this and for a great cause too – we are elated.”

The Meadows is a part of the Milford Care group which have five more homes across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire – Spencer Grove – Belper, Ashbourne Lodge – Ashbourne, Milford House – Milford, Buddleia House – Hucknall and Hazelgrove – Hucknall. All six homes are rated Outstanding or Good by Care Quality Commision.
