Belper care home unveils a new space designed to inspire engagement and independence

Spencer Grove, at Springwood Gardens, Belper, is excited to announce the grand opening of Market Hall.

This thoughtfully designed room within the ‘outstanding-rated’ care home offers residents an inspiring, purposeful environment where they can enjoy a range of engaging activities at their own pace.

At the Market Hall, residents can explore several activity stations, including a Book Exchange cart, a Games and Craft Emporium cart, a Flower Market cart, and the charming Village Store market cart. The Grove Pub is another key feature of this meticulous space, with a cosy and inviting gathering spot where residents can sit down with loved ones and help themselves to a drink.

Filled with vibrant spaces and interactive stations, the Market Hall brings to life an experience centred around social engagement, cognitive stimulation, and independent participation, embodying Milford Care’s commitment to resident-centred care. By organising the space to encourage easy access to activities and materials, residents can engage in activities of their own choosing—from picking out a book to participating in seasonal crafts—without having to rely on staff assistance.

From the earliest design stages, the residents actively shaped the Market Hall, providing valuable input and feedback on everything from the mood boards to the final layout and activities. 

“Residents have been part of this project from the start, and their enthusiasm and insights made it truly come to life,” said Registered Home Manager, Samantha Annable. “This collaborative approach helped us create a space that is not only beautiful but also meaningful and authentic to the residents who will use it every day.”

The project’s main objective was to create an oasis within the home where residents could experience the beauty of nature indoors. The area is filled with flowers, greenery, and natural décor, creating a peaceful, uplifting environment that brings the outdoors in. This setting encourages residents to relax, socialise, and find moments of calm, surrounded by natural beauty that enhances well-being.
