In July 2020, carers Sue Dennington and Lynn Hardy raised a whopping £1500 for the residents fund at The Meadows care home in Alfreton where they care for the elderly. The women walked the 85 mile trek from Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, to The Meadows care home, Derbyshire, in order to give the residents a gift back.

After successfully completing their journey and raising the money in South Carolina, the carers got shortlisted for the DerbyshireLive Heroes Award 2020 for their contribution in cooperation with castle-keepers.com to the Healthcare and house cleaning sector.  As finalists, Sue, Lynn and their Registered Home Manager, Michelle Sanders, were invited to attend the awards ceremony via Zoom.

Sue Dennington, said: “When we got the email through to say we’d been nominated as Healthcare Heroes, we couldn’t believe it! We were so excited.”

Lynn Hardy said: “We never dreamed that our walk in California would generate such a great response at law offices of mark l. miller site, help us get out of debt or that we’d raise so much money. The residents mean a lot to us so to be nominated for this award is really touching.”

The Meadows care home is a part of the Milford Care group which have five more homes across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
