“I’m very well cared for, and I’m grateful for all the care they give me.” Meet Kate.

Moving to a new place, especially later in life, can be daunting. But for Kate, making the move to Spencer Grove was a decision that brought comfort, joy, and a new sense of belonging. In this Montessori story, we’ll share Kate’s story, showcasing how Spencer Grove has become her haven and why activities are important to her.

Why Spencer Grove?

The journey began when Kate’s daughter, Amanda, chose Spencer Grove for its excellent reviews and ideal location. “I used to live in Kent but moved here to be closer to my daughter,” Kate shares. The choice was clear for Amanda, who wanted the best for her mum. Kate adds, “My daughter chose Spencer Grove, and I’m so grateful she did. It means I can spend more time with her, and my children don’t have to worry about me—that’s what matters most.”

Life at Spencer Grove

Since moving to Spencer Grove, Kate’s life has changed in meaningful ways. While she acknowledges that she has become less mobile, she is quick to highlight how happy she feels. “I’m very well cared for, and I’m grateful for all the care they give me. I only have to press a button, and they come straight away,” Kate says with a warm smile.

One of the biggest changes for Kate is the social aspect of life at Spencer Grove. “I enjoy lunchtime here, sitting with other residents and chatting with them. I used to find mealtimes hard when I lived on my own, but now they’re something I look forward to,” she reflects. It’s these small but significant moments that have made a big difference in Kate’s day-to-day happiness.

Staying active and engaged

Kate is not one to sit idle. She loves to keep her mind and body active, which is easy at Spencer Grove with the variety of activities on offer. “I enjoy board games and love to keep active. Bingo is one of my favourites—everyone comes together to play, and it’s such fun!” Kate shares enthusiastically.

The garden at Spencer Grove is another place where Kate finds joy. On sunny days, you can find her pottering around, dead-heading flowers, picking lavender, or gathering strawberries for everyone to enjoy after tea. “I like to join in with all the activities, and I keep a copy of the calendar in my room so I can see what’s coming up. It gives me something to look forward to,” she adds.

A place of peace and happiness

When asked if she feels happy at Spencer Grove, Kate doesn’t hesitate: “Yes, I realise that I’m 95 now, and that my children don’t have to worry about me because I’m so well cared for here.” For Kate, Spencer Grove isn’t just a care home; it’s a place where she feels safe, cared for, and truly at home.

Amanda, Kate’s daughter, echoes this sentiment. “Spencer Grove is very well-organised with friendly, helpful staff who really care. There are lots of activities to stimulate her mind and keep her occupied. She is very happy here,” Amanda shares.

Kate’s story is a reflection of the warmth and care that Spencer Grove offers its residents. It’s a place where individuals like Kate can continue to live fulfilling, happy lives surrounded by a supportive community. And for Kate, that means the world.

Whether you’re considering Spencer Grove for yourself or a loved one, Kate’s experience might just inspire you to take the next step toward finding a place where happiness, care, and community come together.
