Staff and residents at an Ashbourne based care home, which used to be a hotel celebrated its third birthday in spectacular style on Friday.

The residents of Milford Care owned Ashbourne Lodge, were treated to a special celebratory street party, including a carefully planned authentic meal, which was served on long tables offering an array of sandwiches, jelly and homemade cake.

Street parties in the UK started in 1919 as ‘Peace Teas’ after World War One as a treat for children in  times of hardship.

Ashbourne Lodge recreated the iconic street party by decorating the residents’ lounge with bunting. The residents also enjoyed a superb entertainer.

Resident Joan said: “I have been here two years. I like the meals and the activities are good.”

Milford Care has homes in Belper, Milford, Hucknall, Alfreton, and Arnold.
