One-year-old Hucknall care home receives Band 5 Quality Award

A care home which offers dementia care and supported living has been awarded the Band 5 Quality Award by Nottinghamshire County Council.

Buddleia House care home in Hucknall opened in April 2019 and has been awarded with Band 5 Quality Award on its first application.

The home is a part of the Milford Care group which has six homes in total spanning the counties of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Each of the homes within the group hold an Outstanding or Good rating by CQC.

Buddleia House is the second Milford Care home in Hucknall alongside its sister home, Hazelgrove to receive this prestigious award.

The home was commended for its community spirit by inspectors from Nottinghamshire County Council. Andrew Harris, Quality Monitoring Officer from Nottinghamshire County Council said: “Throughout my visit I witnessed numerous examples of relaxed, natural and caring interactions with staff and residents, the ‘book club’ was especially well done, with people reading aloud and sharing passages with the group or simply listening and enjoying being part of the group”.

Buddleia House offers a Montessori-ran home for residents where they can visit the indoor sweet shop, pull a pint at the in-house pub, relax with a game of bowls, feed the chickens and all in a bid to improve their daily lives. This particular approach to care and wellbeing ensures a focus on independence and provides a sensory experience.

Both Buddleia House and Hazelgrove are run by Home Manager, Lorraine Poundall. She said: ‘I’m so proud to be a part of the growth of Milford Care and what we have already achieved. To receive this esteemed accolade is an honour and to have two homes with the same award is heart-warming. The dedication the staff provide is honourable and we can’t thank them enough.’

The home celebrated its one year birthday earlier this month by putting on afternoon tea with a Ritz theme for the residents.
