Proof life is what you bake of it! Care group host gingerbread house competition for Christmas
If you’re looking for gingerbread house inspiration, then look no further! The Milford Care residents and their relatives got stuck into the Christmas spirit by designing, baking and decorating their own gingerbread houses in a competition ran by the care group.
The Milford Care group based in Belper, Derbyshire, welcomed family and friends to Spencer Grove care home for an afternoon of mince pies, sherry, Christmas music and the opportunity to display their gingerbread structures.
The event brought together all six of Milford Care’s homes; Ashbourne Lodge, Milford House, The Meadows, Hazelgrove, Buddleia House and the host, Spencer Grove.
It was judged by two WI members, Jan Swain and Simone Hickling, who is also a local cake maker. They assessed the competition based on taste, texture, presentation and the involvement of residents.
They said, “We’ve really enjoyed the enthusiasm shown by the residents, and we’re really impressed with how stunning the gingerbread houses are. It’s been a fun day and you can tell it’s a family community with the residents as well as the staff by the way everybody was interested and involved – it’s really lovely.”
Milford Care endeavours to provide a jam-packed schedule of activities for all abilities within the six care homes. This has been proven to be effective as part of the Montessori project they practice.
Pierre Falleth, Director of Milford Care said: “We’re proud of the hard-work each of our members of staff put into to make each resident’s stay comfortable and interactive. Meaningful activities are an essential part of our approach to care so that each of our residents can retain a sense of purpose and independence.”
