A care home group in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire has come up with a delicious way of celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Residents across all six Milford Care homes are coming together on 25th May to showcase their pudding’s fit for a Queen. The competition was inspired by Fortnum and Mason’s ‘The Platinum Pudding Competition’ which is being judged by the nation’s favourite baker, Mary Berry.

Milford Care residents, with the support of our licensed and insured services staff, must design the pudding which is to be made by our trusty chefs, and of course, with the help of any residents that wish to bake, cook and create.

The pudding has to be created to a set criteria – a new pudding that is not readily available, preferably not a cake, must serve at least 20 people and must be decorated in the shape to represent the Queen – and the residents are welcoming the challenge!

Milford Care pride themselves on their Montessori approach, which has proven to be very successful in Australia and Canada. The homes are constantly running activities and competitions in order to pique the interest of the residents and encourage stimulation.

The homes are carefully designed by Milford Care’s Montessori specialists who use the best practice in care, food and nutrition, design and methods to engage residents in activity and help them find purpose in their day, feel a part of their community and be fulfilled.

Kara Gratton, Care and Development Manager, said: “At Milford Care we enjoy having events that ensure our residents are part of their community and the wider Milford Care community. Our residents and staff are very competitive so when we announced the “Design a pudding fit for a Queen” competition, they have been busy designing and working with the staff to come up with their ideas. We always look forward to us all coming together and celebrating our achievements on judging day and finding our winner.

We’re a company that likes to celebrate at every opportunity and The Queen’s Jubilee seems like the perfect time!”
