Recently refurbished retirement home, Milford House near Belper and Duffield, was formally the country residence of Jedediah Strutt.

Milford House is looking for an experienced Cook to join our team. All applicants must have a Food Safety Level 2 certificate; experience working within a care environment would be desired but not a necessity if the right candidate came along.

JOB DESCRIPTION – COOK

Position: Cook

Responsible to: Manager / Person in charge

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To prepare and cook a balanced, nutritious diet within a controlled hygienic environment.

To control systems of food allocation to minimise wastage.

To operate and supervise other staff in order that all purchases are controlled within a budget set by the Management.

To ensure that the Kitchen areas are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To control stocks and purchases, in conjunction with the management, thereby allocating the quantities of materials.

To keep the purchase of materials within reasonable budget guidelines.

To maintain a balance diet and varied menus.

To be aware of the Residents dietary needs and preferences.

To discuss the with Nurse in charge special dietary needs and incorporate these into the daily menus.

To ensure that after each meal, samples of food are retained in sample pots in chilled form for the required period.

To ensure that all kitchen staff are trained within the requirements of current legislation.

To ensure that all kitchen staff are issued with the correct uniform and that this is maintained in good repair and in a clean hygienic condition.

To ensure that the cleaning schedules issued by the management are strictly adhered to.

To assist with the duties included on the cleaning schedules issued by the management.

To ensure that all kitchen staff are aware of the Health & safety standards and of the COSHH statement.

To ensure that all kitchen areas meet with the required standards of Health & Safety as laid down in Section 262 of the homes Quality Manual.

To ensure that all kitchen areas are left in clean hygienic state at the end of each shift.

To be responsible for checking the hours worked by the Kitchen staff.

To maintain all kitchen equipment, as specified by the respective manufacturers and to report any malfunctions to the Nurse in charge / Proprietors.

To take part in staff meetings when necessary.

To undergo further training or updating as required.

To inform and teach other kitchen staff of any updating in legislation as and when necessary.

To maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of care and management of the home.

To perform any other such reasonable duties as may be required.

Job Summary

As a Mobile Care Assistant, you will support the Care teams in the five Milford Care homes across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire by helping cover staff absences, holidays etc. If you are hardworking, a team player and can deliver award-winning care, then we want to hear from you.

About you:

You must be a compassionate and caring person with a passion for caring for older adults. You must be reliable and dependable, and committed to making a difference to other people’s lives. Your lifestyle must allow for a good level of flexibility as you may be called to work at any of the Milford Care homes in Milford, Alfreton, Belper, Hucknall or Ashbourne on a short notice. Having your own car and a clean driving license is useful because of the nature of the role.

About the role:

Care Assistants are required to tend to resident’s needs throughout the day and night. This will include working as a team to respond to call bells, assist residents with personal care, repositioning and their nutritional requirements and offering comfort and companionship to residents. As a Mobile Care Assistant, you may be called to work at any of the Milford Care homes in Milford, Alfreton, Belper, Nottingham or Ashbourne. You will be guaranteed a set number of hours monthly (equivalent to a full-time or a part-time role dependent on your wishes), and will have the opportunity to pick up additional work if you wish.
