A retirement home of elegance and distinction, Milford House, near Belper and Duffield, was formerly the country residence of Jedediah Strutt, a leading pioneer industrialist of the 18th century.

This beautiful grade II listed building and its adjoining Coach House were transformed into a tastefully renovated retirement home in 1985. Today, its distinct Georgian elegance is coupled with a warm, friendly and tranquil atmosphere.

Here, our beautifully landscaped and mature gardens are frequently visited by various kinds of fur and feather wildlife, and can be enjoyed at any time of the year from our south facing conservatory.

Above all, we like our residents at Milford House to feel not only at home but also part of one big family. Helping us achieve this are many local staff who attend to their needs and wishes. Our highly experienced teams take pride in what they do, and are dedicated to making our residents as comfortable as possible during their stay, whether it be for a short break or on a more permanent basis.

We are actively involved in the national Dignity Challenge campaign, with many members of our staff taking on the role of Dignity Champions. This campaign is all about putting dignity and respect at the centre of care services, with a great emphasis on treating people with compassion and respect. Our own Dignity Champions ensure that all residents are listened to, respected and treated as individuals, and that our care delivery is dictated by our residents.

“We know Mum was happy at Milford House and really thrived there. This was in no small way the result of the kind care and attention provided by your staff. It was clear that she was receiving first class care and I would like to pay tribute to the nursing staff who were always cheerful and kind.”

“From my first visit to the Coach House [of Milford House], you really helped to ease my concerns for dad, both for his health and his emotional well-being. Thank you so much for all that you have done, it really does make a difference.”

“I just wanted to thank you and the cook and all staff involved in providing us with a splendid birthday tea for my mother. The food was excellent as was the lovely birthday cake you provided. It was lovely to have the chance for us and my mother’s friends to help celebrate a very special birthday.”

“Thank you so much for the excellent care that mum received from you all. We never though that mum would be able to come home after her discharge from Derby Royal. Mum arrived with you and within days was more like her old self, you fed her and cared for her. She is now back at home with dad. Thank you for excellent care and cooking.”

“I feel most grateful that, thanks to you, [my Mother] has experienced a Life Stage that I never expected she would enjoy. At Milford House she experienced unconditional kindness and respect and a flexibility of care which responded to her changing needs. This, together with the commitment of us, her family has been a ‘double act’ which, I believe, has been of enormouse significance. It enabled her to know that she was loved unconditionally – something I think she had always doubted – hence her need to control. The fact that she lived with you not us, in no way reduced my sense of responsibility but it transformed my life and the quality of the time I spent with her. So a bit ‘Thank you’ for these gifts.”
