A reflection of the way Milford Care runs it's Homes, and the dedication of it's Staff, are the numerous distinctions which have been presented to us.

Below are details of some of the major accolades awarded to Milford Care, individual Care Homes and to members of Staff.

Best Group/Medium Care Home 2008

milford care - winner best care group central england 2008 Milford Care group scooped a new award in 2008, with judges impressed at the way residents get to have their say on everything from decor to staff appointments. The award, with others for Carer of The Year, Manager of The Year, Best Domiciliary Provider and Best Small Care Home, was launched by the West Midlands Care Association (WMCA) based in the Midlands.

It was presented to manager Pierre Falleth and Milford Care's development manager Kara Gratton at the NEC Care Show in Birmingham by WMCA chief executive Debbie LeQuesne (cor). The Central England awards were set up to recognise the often unsung heroes and heroines of the care sector. Nominations came from as far away as Nottingham, Solihull, Staffordshire, East Midlands, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Ms LeQuesne (cor) said: "The judges were impressed at the lengths Milford Care went to in engaging clients in the running of the home. Every aspect of the home involved the residents, from selecting colours for the walls to helping to interview potential new staff. The ethos is wonderful and the recognition well deserved."

She added: "The documented evidence supporting those who were nominated was truly touching. The sense of commitment and professionalism in the care sector sadly does not always come across and in an industry which has known some gloomy days, it's wonderful to have a good news story to promote."

Yours Caring Home of the Year 2009

yours magazine - caring home of the year midlands 2009 Yours Caring Stars of the Year Awards are regarded highly in the care industry. The Yours Magazine launched the awards to celebrate all the excellent care we know goes on every day up and down the country.

Ernehale Lodge, our care home in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, was the winner of the Caring Home of the Year 2009 award for the Midlands region. The home was nominated by a student nurse, Jenny Elliot who said “I went on a placement at the home and was amazed at the way the staff treat the residents. It’s a wonderful home and I didn’t want to leave!” The Yours judges added “The staff give warm, one-to-one care and spend as much time with individual residents as they can. Some residents help grow tomatoes and flowers”.

Yours Magazine has received Government backing for its campaign to highlight good homes.

LABC Building Excellence Award

labc awards - best healthcare development 2009 central england Milford Care’s Retirement Living scheme in Belper, which include Lady Well Views Retirement Apartments and Spencer Grove Care Home, won the prize for Best Healthcare Development in the East Midlands in the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2009.

The sold-out Award ceremony took place at the Village Hotel Nottingham on the 12th June. Over 300 guests were delighted to see and be involved in the best construction projects in the East Midlands.

Pierre Falleth, Business Manager of Milford Care, commented “We’ve spent 4 years on designing and developing this scheme in Belper and to win the LABC Building Excellence Award is a fantastic recognition of the construction and design quality of this development”.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards recognise and reward the best quality construction in the East Midlands. The quality stems from good design and an efficient design team, and is translated into quality buildings by an effective construction team. The judges from the local authority Building Control were looking for attention to detail, evidence of a positive working relationship with Building Control and all round build quality.

Pinders Healthcare Design Awards 2009

yours magazine - caring home of the year midlands 2009 Milford Care’s new Retirement Apartment & Care Home scheme in Belper, called Lady Well Views Retirement Apartments and Spencer Grove Care Home received the Specially Commended award in the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards ceremony in London.

Pinders have been organising the Healthcare Design Awards since 1999, and the presentation ceremony is now one of the 'must-go' diary dates in the healthcare calendar. The Awards aim to promote and recognise the very best developments in all types of care-related property.

The Healthcare Design Awards seek to acknowledge the contribution by owners of care schemes, designers and architects to the well-being and quality of life for those in their care.

Whilst architectural standards and innovation are key factors, the overriding test for any project is the degree to which it has recognised the needs and desires of the residents and incorporated these into the final design. The judges reward quality of care, achieved through quality of design, rather than design alone.

Dignity Bronze Award

milford care - winner best care group central england 2008 The Dignity Bronze Award was launched in 2011 by Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire NHS to promote and recognise dignity in care homes. Milford House was one of the first homes to achieve this award in October 2011.

Dignity is a huge subject and its values are largely centred on providing person centred care to each and every individual, including choices not only in care delivery but in the running of what is ‘their’ home.  At Milford House  we involve the residents in everything ranging from staff selection, food choices, decoration, activities and  outings to name but a few, this is in addition to the usual day to day choices i.e. bath times, retiring to bed etc.

Jim Watt (recent winner of East Midlands Care Home worker award) represented Milford House at the Showcase event on 1st November to collect the Home’s certificate.
